Pearry Reginald Teo's 'The Assent' has a strong start, a convincing performance by its lead actor, and nice art direction, all of which competes with a script that fails to do anything interesting to breathe some life into a tired genre. First the acting is over emphasized trying to hard to be convincing....predictable outcomes of scenes .The Father's art is a give away to the invitation to evil however his disorder was quite obvious to be an atheist a open door to any form of evil. I don't get all the 1 reviews it's not great but it's not horrible either I have definitely seen ALOT worse.
I won't know unless I give it a shot..I basically choose to watch based on my attraction to the story line not by other opinions..so I ad my 2 cents over other ratings. It also doesn't rely on some of the overused visuals most possession movies like to use and the ending was great.
2 out of 14 found this helpful. Which at times are pretty spot on! Dug the creature design and the visuals were gorgeous. All the greatest hits of an excorcism film with a schizophrenic dash of flavor that ooozes atmosphere and massive creep factors.
Three stars, and i'm being generous.
The writer/director needed to work on the script to hide it more so it wasn't so obvious. By the time Tatum O'Neal arrived, and I was asking myself, "what is she doing in this ? Why still such movies? However the acting is overall solid and practical effects are worth checking out alone. At the end a twist changes everything. It's the story of a single father played by a sexy Robert Kazinski of Hot Pursuit.
However, the story...eh, I don't know. I would not call it a horror movie but a psychological thriller. That's what this movie cost me on PlayStation to rent. He’s authentic, personable and sympathetic. The Assent is a psychological suspense film about someone who is mentally ill, that kept me guessing as to whether what we're seeing is supernatural or the manifestations of a madman, as the film progresses we see someone who decays into utter insanity and created his own illusions of all that surrounds him. I wasn't disappointed, well maybe a little. Well no , it doesn't. While watching it , I couldn't help but wonder if 2 different people wrote it and directed it.
Not a great movie, not a horror movie but not a movie I regret watching, better than a lot of the crap they make now days. Was this review helpful? It's not scary but It has descent acting & alot of cool & dark art work throughout the house which I liked.

The film’s horror visuals are certainly striking in their own way but at no point does anyone have a face full of holes and it doesn’t really seem to tie into the plot in any meaningful way. There's also a somewhat surprising twist that is quite intriguing. Was this review helpful? Ambitious and sufficiently terrifying, The Assent is a satisfying possession film that does an excellent job lulling audiences into its nightmare.
Really? A widower, he just about scrapes by working as a mechanic, earning just enough to pay for the babysitter who looks after his son Mason.
